This classic DOS game is my all-time favorite! It's not really a car game but more of a toy game since you race around miniworlds (like kitchen tables and tool benches) in tiny vehicles. Maybe doesn't sound soo fun but, believe me, it's a gas bumping into forks and nails and loosing the race because of a grain of salt! it's also a very fast game!
As every DOS gamer knows, getting games to work in Windows XP can be a nightmare since XP doesn't include MS-DOS. Looking for DOS emulators, I tried both FreeDOS and Virtual PC without lock. So I found … DOSBox.
DOSBox is a open source DOS emulator which also runs on Mac and Linux. Yesterday I spent some time making MM2 work in Dosbox. The hardest part was that there are several different versions of MM2: Turbo Tournament, Special Edition and CD version, so knowing which to use wasn't obvious, the DOSBox site reports having successfully tested the CD version. After fiddling with the sound and cpu cycles configuration I finally got the Special Edition to work! The cpu cycles option is a way to speed up or slow down the emulation, you use it if the game is too fast or slow. It seems a bit inconsistent to me as I got different results each time I started the game. Luckily, you can configure setup values in Dosbox, so you always start with the same configuration.
I've also enjoyed Micro Machines V3 which is a Windows game. Strangely enough the graphics is lousy – the graphics in MM2 is much better! MM2 is also much more fun to play.
Micro Machines still lives BTW! This summer Codemasters releases a 3D version called Micro Machines V4!
Thanks to Gamespot for the screen shots.

dude, this si such a great game!!! I have the dos cd and everything. We have XP now and I haven’t been able to play it for such a long time. I’ve tried my had at forcing XP to play it, but it just runs like crap and I hate having to do that much work just to play it.
Anyhoo, thank you so much dude.
this game is still one of the best out there! ha.
